Nikolic: “We need to play our best handball to defeat NEXE!”

Vojvodina

Vojvodina and NEXE will on Tuesday (19.00 CET) meet in Novi Sad in a match in which hosts will look to stun favoured guests who have recently found themselves in a series of tough EHF Cup matches but are at the same time on the right track to repeat last season’s success when they managed to reach quarter-finals. The fact which is taking a bit pressure off from coach Horvat and his players is that they’ve already secured a position on the final tournament for themselves. It will however be interesting to see whether the team from Nasice will manage to finish the regular part of SEHA season on top of the standings.

Vojvodina’s goals are on the other side quite clear. With three more matches left ahead of them, they have a good shot of finishing the regular season on sixth position which would be one of the biggest achievements for the team from Novi Sad in the regional competition. However, with only one match behind them in February, coach Boris Rojevic is concerned his players might not be in the perfect form at the moment.

Boris Rojevic, Vojvodina coach:
We will play against a team that is having their best season in the regional competition so far. On Sunday, they lost an EHF Cup match and the players will most definitely look for a redemption, especially considering the fact they still have a chance to finish the regular season on top of the standings. Our matches against them are always tough and we’ll definitely see where we are at this point in the season. Bad thing is that we’ve played only one match in February which is why we can’t really say we’re in the best possible form at the moment.

Jovica Nikolic, Vojvodina player:
We watched NEXE’s last EHF Cup game. They are having probably their best season so far during which they’ve managed to defeat Hannover and other good teams. We must give our best, run the court well and remain active in defense. In case we deliver our best I believe we might be able to win it.

Hrvoje Horvat, NEXE coach:
We’re coming back to SEHA duties after a series of EHF Cup matches. We have a lot of quality outings behind us so far this season and the goal is to keep up. Vojvodina also have a lot of very good results this season showing great resistance against teams like PPD Zagreb and Vardar. They have a great balance of experienced and younger players with huge potential to go along with excellent defense and goalkeepers.

Mario Tomic, NEXE player:
Three SEHA matches are ahead of us. All games are equally important and we’ll take them seriously starting from this one in Novi Sad. Goal is to play on the highest possible level defensively because I believe defense will decide this one.
