Grbovic beats the buzzer for Steaua’s second win of the season

Steaua Bucuresti have on Thursday afternoon reached their second SEHA home win of the season defeating Serbian champions Vojvodina Novi Sad 28:27 (14:14) after Nemanja Grbovic managed to beat the final buzzer on Stavrositu’s assist. Guests however made a clear statement from the very beginning showing nothing but willingness and motivation to take three points home with them and they were in the end closer than many really expected.

Stefan Vujic remained on the sidelines in this one and it was clearly visible on Steaua’s offense which really struggled in the opening ten minutes of the game scoring only one goal. Vojvodina’s offense was on the other side functioning great in that period and they were able to open the gap to five early into the encounter keeping it wide open until the middle of the first (4:9) when home-team defense started playing way more aggressive slowly helping their team getting back into this one. Humet and Milosevic on the other hand took over in attack for hosts leveling the match at 14:14 at the very end of the first half.

Guest-team attack was way slower in the second half as it seemed Serbian champs weren’t able to get past Romanian team defense and the result was 21:17 lead for Steaua in the middle of the second. Coach Boris Rojevic however managed to wake his players up as the match was coming to a close and when Dusko Celica brought his team to only -1 less than five minutes prior to the final whistle it became clear the encounter can go either way. With less than a minute to go Branko Tomic levelled the whole thing at 27:27 but luckily for their fans Ovidiu Mihaila kept his focus calling a timeout which later resulted with a play-action from which Grbovic brought three new points to his team.

Javier Humet played an extraordinary match scoring ten goals for Steaua while Milos Grozdanic netted seven for Vojvodina.
