Can Kasim Kamenica turn tables upside down in Novi Sad?
Remaining six regular season matches each Metalurg and Vojvodina still have to play in SEHA - Gazprom League’s seventh season can’t change much for either of them. Metalurg are looking at yet another mediocre season, their Final 4 hopes vanished even before the winter break and situation is not looking like it may get any better with the departure of two of their key players - goalkeeper Darko Arsic (Metaloplastika) and Bozo Andjelic (Ferencvaros). Macedonians are currently seventh with 13 points.
Vojvodina on the other side used the winter break to participate on a tournament in Belgrade where they secured fourth place in the end but they also recorded a domestic Cup victory against Spartak. It is left to see whether new coach Kasim Kamenica and two newly-acquired players Svetislav Verkic and Marko Simovic can help Serbian champs turn tables upside down and run away from the bottom.
In their premier face-off this season in Novi Sad hosts managed to reach a narrow 21:19 win.
Match is scheduled for Sunday (15.00 CET) in VIP Arena, Skopje and will be broadcasted on ehf TV, MRT (Macedonia) and Arena Sport channels.
Aleksandar Jovic, Metalurg coach:
I believe this will be another derby of the bottom in SEHA - Gazprom League. Extremely difficult match for both of us right after the winter break. Vojvodina have acquired new coach Kasim Kamenica who surely knows us well. I believe he’ll prepare them well and that they’ll come here to win. However, we’ve also used the past month for preparations and I am convinced guys will give their best out there on Sunday.
Nikola Danilovski, Metalurg player:
We are playing a strong team on Sunday led by Kasim Kamenica who surely knows us well from the last season. Our team looks a bit different, some players left during the winter break but I believe in this team.
Boris Rojevic, Vojvodina assistant coach:
We started the year off right with a Cup win against Spartak in Subotica which is really important. We’re however now facing a much more difficult task playing Champions League-bound club like Metalurg. We’re still dealing with some minor roster problems - some players are sick but we’ve managed to acquire two reinforcements, goalkeeper Verkic and right back Simovic. We expect the team to show the fighting spirit and deliver their max.
Svetislav Verkic, Vojvodina goalkeeper:
I'm glad I came back to Vojvodina. I want to help the team improve their results. My return was certainly influenced by high quality of the competition here in SEHA Gazprom League. Of course I like to play against the best and I feel like Vojvodina deserves better placement in the standings. We need to play way better in the second part of the season than we did in the first starting from the match against Metalurg on Sunday.
