Weakened PPD Zagreb looking for a miracle against Veszprem

Oslabljeni PPD Zagreb traži čudo protiv Veszprema

PPD Zagreb - Veszprem

Big derby of SEHA Gazprom League between PPD Zagreb and Veszprem is scheduled for Wednesday, 19.00 CET in Varaždin. These two clubs have already met in Varaždin, last season. Zagreb so far have 9 victories and 2 losses from 11 matches. Veszprem on the other hand have 8 wins and a draw from 9 rounds.

Last year they have met three times with Veszprem reaching three victories - 27:22 in Hungary and 24:21 in Croatia in regular part of the season as well as narrow 25:24 victory in F4 semis in Veszprem. It seems like Zagreb are getting closer and closer to favored Veszprem from match to match and an additional proof is Veszprem's tight 21:20 victory in Croatian capital in this season's Champions League. However, reality has quite changed since then and Zagreb are experiencing severe injury problems with Stepančić, Šebetić, Šušnja and Šandrk being sidelined for the match along with Mandalinić and Josip Valčić which is a big problem for coach Vujović at the moment. Veszprem also have their problems but longer bench can keep coach Sabate calm ahead of the derby.

Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb' coach:

Tough moment to play this match, more for us than for Veszprem. We'll play in Varaždin where it is nice to play but there won't be many of our supporters and on the other side I'm sure many of their fans will come. I have to be honest and say Veszprem are favorites, it will be really hard to play for 60 minutes. Our goal is to deliver a good performance, win the match against Borac and go on a well-deserved winter break.

Antonijo Kovačević, PPD Zagreb' player:

We're having really too many injury problems and we who can play at the moment have to do everything to make things look good. If we were all healthy I would not say Veszprem are favorites but in this kind of situation I can't do anything but agree with our coach. In such matches fanatic playing style and good defense creates a stunner and in case we manage to deliver such performance Veszprem will be in problems.

Javier Sabate, Veszprem' coach:

Zagreb is a tough and good team. They've improved a lot this season and their youngsters are getting better and better. It won't be easy, they have a tight defense which is their biggest strenght without question. They can change defensive tactics from minute to minute and in case we manage to adapt to each one of them fast we'll have a chance to win tomorrow. If not they'll have a a chance to score many easy goals after our technical mistakes or their goalkeepers' saves.

László Nagy, Veszprem' player:

We know it will be a difficult game because now at the end of the first part of the season we both have some players missing due to injuries. Some of our players have already started with preparations with Hungarian national team. It will be e tough match but I think we can win it and succeed in our last away match of the season.
