Clear victory for Meshkov against rookies from Subotica

Убедительная победа БГК против новичков из Суботицы

Meshkov Spartak

Meshkov Brest have, as expected, managed to show why they were before the match given favorite role beating Spartak Vojput in the opening match of SEHA Gazprom League’s fifth season. Belarus champions were a better team through the whole match reaching 40:28 (18:11) victory.

Bad start was crucial for guests allowing Meshkov to reach points even easier than expected. After 10 minutes Meshkov were already 7 goals ahead (8:1) and it was not hard for them to maintain goal gap wide until the very end of season’s opener. Spartak were able to cut the lead to -4 (9:5) in the middle of the first half but that was as far as they could go.

Second half started in the same pace first ended - with Meshov enlarging the goal gap and even passing +10 goal difference. Spartak were once again able to tighten up the defence reaching -6 at 22:16 but they were not able to come any closer. Hosts have rotated much with every player except newcomer Pavel Atman being given a chance to feel the first match of the season.

Stojković scored 7 for hosts, Babichev added 6, Županjac and Basarić scored 5 each for Spartak.

Sergey Bebeshko, Meshkov’s coach:

Тhe beginning was a little unexpected reaching 7:1 so early into the match. Difference in team's quality was pretty visible today. However, I am not at all satisfied with the second half and with how some of my players have approached today's game and that's what makes me uncomfortable. Despite of that I believe we will grow from match to match but we should not allow ourself such things like we did today. This big +12 win proves we really were a better team today.

Rastko Stojković, Meshkov’s player:

I agree with my coach - we’ve made many mistakes. But it was the first match and big pressure on our shoulders. We will surely get better from match to match.

Branislav Zeljković, Spartak’s coach:

I can’t say I am not satisfied with my team’s performance here today. We’ve had a very good rival in our first match in the League and I’ve expected my players to feel a bit of pressure. I am however not satisfied with our defence, they’ve scored 40 goals. We’ve on the other side scored 28 which is not so bad against such a team.

Bojan Županjac, Spartak’s player:

I’d like to congratulate the home team on a quality game. For us this was a big experience which will surely be useful in matches to come. Meshkov are playing really fast scoreing lots of easy goals which is quite new for us. We’ll try to play better in the future.
