Veszprem - Top team, highest ambitions

Veszprem

Hungarian champions Veszprem had the best season in club's history so far in 2014/2015 season. Players coached by Spaniard Antonio Carlos Ortega won the regional SEHA - GAZPROM League on their debut in the competition as well as all domestic trophies ahead of eternal rivals PICK Szeged. They've also reaches VELUX EHF CL's finals in Cologne where they were beaten by Barcelona. That was the second final clash in the elite club's competition for Hungarians meaning that CL's trophy remains club's highest goals in the upcoming season.

The highest ambitions are on the line with the quality of team's roster. Veszprem have signed two classy players in the back-line, Icelandic star Aron Palmarsson and Croatian NT member Ivan Slišković. The 25 years-old Icelander, who can be useful on left back and playmaker position, came from German THW Kiel, while left back Slišković played last two seasons in Slovenian TOP team - Celje Pivovarna Laško.

They will reinforce the squad instead of experienced Spanish playmaker Carlos Ruesga and Iranian left back Iman Jamali, who went on loan to Swedish champions Kristianstad.

Antonio Carlos Ortega can count on his most important players like team's captain Laszlo Nagy, EHF CL TOP scorer in the last two seasons Momir Ilić and EHF CL best goalkeeper in the season behind, Roland Mikler.

Veszprem will have their first part of preparations on Slovenian mountain Rogla before departure to their traditional test - Sparkassen Cup in Germany, where first friendly matches will be played.

The opening match of the season will be held on September 1st when Veszprem will host Belarus Meshkov Brest at "Veszprem Arena" in the replay of SEHA - GAZPROM League Final tournament - F4 final from April 2015. Rampant Hungarian squad won 19 from 20 matches in the regional league last season, with only defeat in Skopje against Vardar.

Veszprem's fans are also expecting interesting matches in VELUX EHF Champions League, which will be played in the new system. Hungarians will meet THW Kiel, PPD Zagreb, PSG Handball, SG Flensburg, Besiktas MOGAZ, Orlen Wisla Plock and Celje Pivovarna Laško in the Group A.
