Zomimak living their dream

Зомимак конечно го оствари сонот

Dejan Pecakovski

For the first time in five years of SEHA League Macedonia will have a new participant - Zomimak from Strumica. After a decade of Vardar and Metalurg dominating, finally a club which is not from Skopje has managed to reach second place and will replace Metalurg which was SEHA's constant for 4 years.

For a city from the south of Macedonia, which is about 160 km away from Skopje, wishes began to realize this spring when they realized they might reach regional competition after a minimal loss in Skopje against Metalurg 22:21. In Strumica they have managed to reach a narrow 21:20 victory which will bring SEHA League to their city due to more away goals scored.

Marjan Andonov, Zomimak's coach:

- We've achieved our goal of playing SEHA League. We hope we can play in front of home crowd, but what is important is that Zomimak showed that with quality have, we deserve to be in this handball company. We are new, and will have a lot to learn, but we are ready to show that we can fight.

Zomimak have demonstrated their ambition to play an important role in the League by retaining almost the entire team that achieved this result. Only players to leave were: brothers Nikola and Velko Markoski and Igor Pavlovski. Wishes to recruit more domestic players could not be accomplished and coach Marjan Andonov had to look for new players abroad.

During the summer Zomimak hired five players: Mirko Majić (Montenegro) - left wing, Alan Kulenović (BiH) - right-back, Stefan Čizmović (Montenegro) - pivot, Slaviša Dimitrijevski - back and Borce Sokolov - left back.

For the club from Strumica, playing in SEHA league is the greatest success. So far, they have only played EHF's Cup once back in 2013/14 season but were far away from reaching any points competing against Montpellier, Sporting and Skjern.

They also were not able to reach any biggers success at home mostly due to Vardar's domination. They have played Cup's finals twice but were defeated in both occasions. As a part of preparations for the new season, club will participate in Struga tournament (August 12/15) playing in a group with Besiktas (Turkey) and Dinamo Bucharest.
