Vojvodina - Meshkov Brest 2 14/15

Belarus champions Meshkov Brest have expectedly celebrated in Novi Sad against Vojvodina with 36:25 securing third place after the regular part of the season. Current Serbian champions have ended the competition with two wins, for draws and twelve defeats.

Home team’s coach has decided to leave Ćurković and Datukashvili on the bench giving younsters like Jovanović and Arsenić along with little older Orbović a chance to show what they can against favorized guest.

Match was decided at the beginning of second half with Meshkov enlarging the goal gap to 6 after 5:1 series led by winger Dzainis Rutenka who was best scorer for Belarus champions today. Miloš Orbović scored 5 for hosts.

Ljubo Vukić, Meshkov’s player:

Our goal was to come here and win points and that is exactly what we did. It was not as easy as result would suggest. We did not play our best match but we’ve managed to use their lack of experience today. Final tournament is ahead of us.

Vanja Smiljanić, Vojvodina’s player:

Good first half for us, too many missed clear shots in the second which Meshkov were today able to use. Well deserved win.

Željko Babić, Meshkov’s coach:

Result is not so real, this was a tough match. We have managed to use bigger rotation and experience and reach three points. It is clear that Vojvodina are still not able to play on three stages but I see much potential in their squad. They need time and I wish them luck.

Đorđe Ćirković, Vojvodina’s coach:

We have today decided to give our younger players a chance since this match is not longer important for us speaking of result. We’re in a bad situation with two of our most important players Ćurković and Datukashvili forced to watch the match from the stands due to injuries. I also had to give some time to Elezović and Todorović to relax because we’ll need them later. What makes me happy is performance of our younger players, especially ahead of domestic championship.
