Željko Babić (43), current Meshkov's coach has been elected to coach Croatian national team. His assistant will be former Croatian captain Petar Metličić.
Babić has contract with Meshkov until June, and he did not decide to extend it. Prior to working in Belarus, Babić led clubs from Split, Krško and Metković and was Goluža's assistant in the national team. Slavko Goluža resigned after a poor performance on World Championship in Qatar.
Babić was one of the candidates along with Goran Perkovac and Ivica Obrvan. His first duty will be to successfully continue with EURO 2016 Poland qualifications started by Slavko Goluža with victories against the Netherlands and Turkey
