Vardar winning SEHA GSS League's derby

Вардар се зацврсти на второто место на табелата

Vardar - Meshkov Brest 1

In their first game in 2015, Macedonian Vardar have retained second place in SEHA GSS league after beating Meshkov Brest with 28-25. For home team this was a fourth victory in a row in the SEHA GSSLleague, or sixth victory in a row, together with matches in EHF’s Champions League. After this game defending champions have 33 points and 11 victories with only three points behind MKB MVM Veszprem.

The victory in Skopje was sweet for Vardar, as a revenge for the high loss (22-30) in Belarus, last October.

Although Babić was not able to count on all of his players today, Meshkov have once again proved to be a tough opponent for anyone. Vardar was struggling for all 60 minutes to break guest’s defence which they have in the end managed to do after 3:0 series for 27:24.

First half ended with 13:13 althoug Meshkov were able to keep minimal lead throughout first 30 minutes. Dibirov was with 8 goals Vardar’s best scorer, Shishkarev added 5. Nikulenkau was on the other side Meshkov’s MVP with 5 goals.

Raul Gonzalez, Vardar’s coach

Meshkov have played a great game tonight. This was a tough match, we did not have much time to prepare. A few days ago many of our players have returned from Qatar and considering all of that I can say I am satisfied with the match. Important 3 points.

Stefan Terzić, Vardar’s player

I think that during the first half they’ve played solid defense tactically well, and for us it very tough to score. In the second half we were clearly better and maybe even able to make bigger goal difference but it did not happen. However, it is great that we were confident in the end reaching 3 important points. Well deserved win I believe.

Željko Babić, Meshkov’s coach

During the second half we were not good in offence, we did not have idea how to split their defence. However we were able to keep close until final five minutes when Kamyshyk shot well and hit post, Vardar have scored two easy goals and that was it. That was, in my opinion, key moment.

Ljubo Vukić, Meshkov’s player

I agree with my coach, we were better in first half than in the second. I think we were not aggressive enough in the end. It was clear that we were both a bit exhausted, having many players which have recently joined clubs after returning from Qatar.
