Victory, draw and three losses for SEHA’s representatives in EHF’s CL

MKB-MVM Veszprem - Vardar 7 (14/15)

Only one SEHA GSS League’s team has reached a victory in EHF Champions League’s fourth round - Hungarian champions MKB MVM Veszprem celebrated in Celje. Macedonian Vardar has grabbed a point in France and SEHA’s three representatives in group A were defeated.

Veszprem have once again showed how serious contenders for Cologne’s F4 they are. In front of more than 5,000 fans in Zlatorog hall they have managed to reach a 21:24 victory. Hungarian national team goalkeeper Roland Mikler has had a key role in turning the match on Veszprem’s side along with Momir Ilić who scored 7 goals.

In the same group Vardar has managed to stay unbeaten in France against outstanding Montpellier. Final result was 34:34 with Arpad Šterbik showing his huge experience between posts and along with great Igor Karačić who was one of the best individuals of the match, giving Macedonians an opportunity to bring at least a point back to Skopje. ‘Flying Russian’ Timur Dibirov was Vardar’s best scorer with 9 goals.

The other Macedonian team - Metalurg, has suffered biggest defeat in its recent history. German Kiel has completely destroyed Červar’s machine in Skopje with huge 42:27. Metalurg’s best scorers were Vančo Dimovski with 6 and Renato Vugrinec with 5. That was Metalurg’s fourth loss in a row and they will have to use CL’s break until the middle of November in the best possible way if they want to reach Last 16 phase for the fourth year in a row.

Metalurg’s biggest rivals in the race for Last 16 will be other two SEHA GSS League’s representatives in the competition - Meshkov Brest and PPD Zagreb.

Vujović’ team has had a perfect chance to take this season’s first away points in Spain against Naturhouse La Rioja leading through the whole match but they have in the end let victory slip from their hands with Spaniards winning 22:21. Zagreb’s best scorer was one of the youngest players in the squad Domagoj Pavlović with 5 goals.

Belarus Meshkov was also just a step away from the victory in their Viktoria hall against super strong French team PSG which was in a thriller ending better with 29:28. Rastko Stojković scored 7, Dzianis Rutenka 6.

Veszprem’s Momir Ilić is still on CL’s best goal scorer list’s top. After four matches played he has 33 goals, only 2 more than Vardar’s Dibirov who is fourth.

EHF’s CL is going on small break until the middle of November due to start of Men's EHF EURO 2016 qualifications.
