Stanescu grabs 19 saves as Steaua defeat Metalurg in Skopje

MET - STE

Not even the fact that they were, due to all the injuries they are at the moment dealing with, forced to come to Skopje with only eight players and two goalkeepers could on Wednesday evening stop Steaua Bucharest from reaching their premier SEHA - Gazprom League road victory defeating Metalurg 28:29. Not many expected Steaua to win the match in Skopje with Metalurg proving to be on the rise lately reaching their premier Champions League win only a few days ago. Things started off well in this one for hosts as well, as they managed to open the gap to two (15:13) already before the half-time whistle. However, on wings of their incredible goalkeeper Tudor Stanescu, who in the end finished the match with magnificent 19 saves, Romanians have managed to turn the result in their favor in the second and grab valuable points in Macedonian capital.

Bizau, Vegar and Johansson – who in the end sealed the deal putting his team two goals ahead (27:29) with less than a minute to go until the final buzzer, scored five each for Steaua while Spende netted six for Metalurg. Ante Tokic finished the match with three including the one which brought hosts a slight hope that they can at least take a point in this one after he narrowed the gap to only one with about half a minute left to play. However, hosts failed to score from what was the final attack of the encounter and will have to wait for the next round and an opportunity to grab new regional league points in Novi Sad against Vojvodina.
