Verdinek, Toskic and Ovnicek shoot 20/20 as Gorenje stun Meshkov

Gorenje Velenje - Meshkov Brest

What a way to close 2017 and the first part of SEHA - Gazprom League's seventh season! Gorenje Velenje have at home managed to stun everyone not only ending a bad series with a win over highly favored Meshkov Brest but ending it in style with a more than dominant 37:28 victory. There was simply nothing coach Sergey Bebeshko and players he decided to take to Slovenia could today do against amazingly motivated and focused team from Velenje.

Hosts were today simply on fire on both sides of the court - Klemen Ferlin delivered one of his best outings of the season stopping 15 shots while on the other side Matic Verdinek, Alem Toskic and Rok Ovnicek combined for 20 goals without missing a single shot! A little less than ten minutes before the half-time Gorenje have already managed to widen the gap to five (14:9) enlarging it to seven (20:13) right before the half-time whistle.

Ljubo Vukic and Petar Djordjic netted four each for Meshkov today but it was far from enough to stop furious hosts today on their way to close the shaky first part of the season in the best possible way in front of their fans. Gorenje have that way climbed the table and will finish the first part of the season on fifth place keeping their Final Four hopes alive with this stunner and on the other side Meshkov failed to narrow the gap between themselves and PPD Zagreb which will significantly lower their chances of finishing the regular season above fourth place.
