Borbely grabs 19 saves as Veszprem beat Izvidjac at home

Telekom Veszprem - Izvidjac CO

Telekom Veszprem have celebrated second win in only 24 hours in front of home fans at "Veszprem Arena''. Hungarian champions have routinely managed to beat Izvidjac 36:31 (21:11) with some of young domestic names in the main roles after getting a chance from Xavi Sabate to show their capabilities. With this win, reigning champions came on 41 points and stayed in the battle for the first place at the end of the regular part of the season.

From the very beginning, Hungarians were able to put their rivals far behind led by goalkeeper Adam Borbely (19 saves), strong defense and Gasper Marguc (TOP scorer with eight goals) taking main roles in this one. Until the half-time break, Veszprem were on +10 - 21:11.

Bosnian champions didn't let that game just pass until the end. Team led by Zdenko Grbavac showed a high level of motivation and came to only -4 (29:25) 11 minutes until the final buzzer, but Fekete, Lekai and Marguc have once again taken over control of the match finally sealing the deal.

Blaz Blagotinsek was best scorer after Marguc for the winning team with six goals, while on the other side same number of goals was scored by David Mandic.

Xavi Sabate, Telekom Veszprem coach:
I would like to congratulate our team for the victory. I think that in the first half the defense was very good and Ádam Borbély was incredible between posts but unfortunately it was not that good in the second half. As I have already said yesterday our young players have to play and make mistakes because that is normal. If they do not play, they will never learn. I am happy with the way Attila Toth played. Erik Szeitl played well as well. Zoltán Szita played in a school tournament today but I am sure he will have his chance too. He can be an important player for the team in the future. We are on SEHA Final4 now which was one of the goals of this season.

Attila Toth, Telekom Veszprem player:
Congratulations to our opponent, they played very well. It was an important victory, but there is a long way ahead of our team. I'm very glad and thankful for the coaching staff because we, young players, got a lot of opportunity to play which means a lot of motivation for us for the future. I'm very happy for this victory.

Zdenko Grbavac, Izvidjac coach: We've played well despite of the fact that we were a bit frightened by the home team. Nevertheless, we enjoyed playing here. In the second half we were able to overcome our fear and play pretty good. All in all I am satisfied with the way we played today.

Kristijan Jarak, Izvidjac player:
We were impressed by Veszprem in the first half because they are a great team. We've however managed to get better later, especially in the second half. I think we can be satisfied with the final result. Congratulations to Veszprem.
