MVM Veszprem with only +1 from Prešov after a thriller ending

MVM Veszprém s jednogólovým víťazstvom po záverečnom thrilleri

Tatran Presov - Veszprem

MVM Veszprem have managed to celebrate a victory in their final clash of the regular part of the season but it was way harder than expected against fully motivated Tatran. In the end only +1 (25:26) after a hurricane ending from multiple Slovak champions. Tatran have played an amazing match managing to stay close even when MVM Veszprem were doing their best to enlarge the gap and close everything. It was +3 for guests after first 30 and in the second part of the second half MVM Veszprem have made a small series enlarging the gap to 4 with a little more than 5 minutes left on the clock. However, on wings of Sadovyi and Cip Tatran have managed to come closer and almost stun favored guest.

Krok and Sadovyi have finished the match with 5 goals each for Tatran and on the other side Palmarsson was the most responsible for canceling the surprise with 8 goals, Lekai added 6 with Alilović and Mikler combining for 14 saves.

Rastislav Trtik, Tatran coach:

I would like to thank Veszprem for their compliments. We consider Veszprem to be one of two best teams. We know that they also have some problems because Nagy, Zeitz and Ilić did not play today and we’ve partly used that. We’ve managed to deliver a disciplined performance, again used our home youth players in the game, even though they were not given enough space on the court. Our second goalkeeper Vernarsky showed his quality tonight. It is a big pity that our first goalkeeper Igor Chupryna did not have his day. We were looking for this game and we are glad it finished like that. I wish Veszprem success in the end of the season.

Michal Kopčo, Tatran pivot:

Congratulations to Veszprem on their victory. It is one of the best teams in the world. I am glad we played a disciplined game in defense and attack. I am happy we showed our fans we can play good handball despite of losing three players this season. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Veszprem to get to the Champions League’ Final Four.

Javier Sabate, MVM Veszprem coach:

Congratulations to Prešov on their great performance. Last season it was also a very tough game here in Prešov. I respect this kind of games and they also played very good in Veszprem.  Despite they lost three players, they are a good team and play good handball. As for the game, we were good in defense. In the most important moments of the game we’ve relied on great saves of our goalkeepers. In attack there were too many lost balls on our side. Overall we must be satisfied. We could introduce our new player Isaias Guardiola and we could give more minutes to Peter Gulyas who came back after long-time injury. I would like to congratulate my players on clinching the first place after SEHA League regular season. The most interesting part of the season starts right now. We will work hard to reach our goals. Finally I would like to thank our fans who came to support us here in Prešov. I would like to wish Tatran best for the rest of the season.

Roland Mikler, MVM Veszprem goalkeeper:

I would like to congratulate Prešov on playing a great match today. It was really a good game. Tatran fought hard until the end. We knew they were a good team and wanted to beat us. We won and we are happy because we’ve finished first after the regular part of the season. We have to continue with our job.
